The Postharvest Fresh Foods Group conducts research to enable harvested fruits and vegetables to reach their markets with optimal quality and safety. This includes investigation into how produce is affected by biochemical changes in terms of textural quality and taste, as well as developing systems and technologies that ensure product quality and presentation are maintained from farm/orchard to market.

This position will deliver commercial impact for fresh fruit industries in New Zealand by delivering research outcomes that will improve fruit quality, product value and supply chain efficiency. You will take on a leadership role that is responsible for designing, implementing, and reporting project outcomes to commercial partners.  There will be a primary focus on ethylene management in apple fruit, with some scope to expand to other crops in the future.  You will need to able to build strong relationships with end-users, with the intention of interpreting the technical needs of commercial partners and translating these needs into research projects, customer trials, and information dissemination.

You will have a degree in horticultural science, or related areas, with a preference for a post-graduate qualification (Masters or PhD). Expertise in fruit physiology and system/technologies for managing and assessing quality in the supply chain. A proven track record of experience engaging with customers to implement technical solutions to meet their business needs will be essential.
